Advanced Copic Marker & Colored Pencil Class: "Winter Trees"

Painting techniques with copic markers?

Yep!

Negative painting is a trick that painters have used, almost since the days of cave painting. It's a great way to develop really complex images without killing yourself trying to keep track of all the layers.

Intermediate Copic Coloring Class- Learn to use negative painting techniques to simplify complex images with tons of depth. | VanillaArts.com

This month, we'll be using the technique to color "Winter Trees"

And guess what?

It's not a stamp!

Every student will make their own unique forest. It's easier than you think!

I especially recommend this class for my watercolor students, we use this same technique for leaf veins and so this is a great chance to practice.

Based on a watercolor project by Linda Kemp, you'll love this lesson!

Most crafters love the smooth blending effects that Copic Markers offer.

But life is full of texture. The first step to adding realism to your images is to admit that smooth blending is not appropriate for every single stamp image you color. Real life is full of lumpy, bumpy, and craggy surfaces.

Knit objects are one of those stamps that look so much better with texture.

Fair Isle Stocking was a class offered to my live class students in December 2016.

Copic Marker: Food & Photo Realism

Food & Photo Realism

Food illustrations are pretty trendy on the internet now... maybe we're all looking for a little calorie free comfort food?

This time, we'll be studying our photo reference to color white frosting accurately. White isn't white, so we'll discuss my philosophy behind choosing colors for white food (as opposed to coloring non-food white items).

Join us for art based coloring lessons. You'll love the students and the challenge!

* Yes, I know it's a plum pudding, not a cake. But when Americans think "pudding" we think boxes of instant custard like stuff.

“Tonic”: Advanced Copic Techniques for Glass and Transparent Objects

Coloring Glass is a Challenge

I'm not going to lie. Glass is something you work at but never master.

I know there are a lot of internet coloring tutorials for how to color glass, they almost always use a few BG Copics and you spend most of the time tracing the outline of the bottle, jar, or drinking glass.

Does that really look real to you?

Join us for art based coloring lessons on how to look at glass through an artist's eye- clues to look for, materials to use, and when + how to highlight. This class is the first step to really coloring glass rather than outlining it!
