Great Marker Challenge: “Ice Cream Heart”

A triple scoop kind of heart...

Another heart... are you sensing a theme here yet?

This was fun, even though it is pink.

I'm thinking about packaging these digis up for purchase in the shop. More on that later. I'm not sure if I should do them individually or bundle up the entire month into a theme pack.

And of course,  this is another Great Marker Challenge image.

The Great Marker Challenge:  42 Copic markers, 52 weeks.

Why only 42 markers?

I teach several beginner Copic classes. And while I do have the occasional student willing to shell out the big bucks for all 356 markers, the great majority of my students have limited budgets and a serious need for starter kit info.

So I came up with a list of 42 colors for newbies. I teach all my beginner level classes using only markers from this list. And to test the limits of how many images we can color with just the list (before the palette starts looking monotonous), I color a new image every Friday.

So far, so good! I've yet to find an image I can't handle with my magic 42.

Great Marker Challenge- "The Key to my Heart"

The Key to my Heart

Merry Friday and an early Happy Valentine's Day to you all.

My oldest is home from college for the weekend and the young'ins have a four-day weekend... so I'm thinking this year won't include a romantic dinner for two.

More than likely, it'll be pizza for five, a couch, and Netflix.

And that sounds absolutely lovely.

Older and wiser? You bet'cha!

Here's this week's Great Marker Challenge image.

Great Marker Challenge- "All Aflutter" Coloring Images with a Limited Copic Marker Palette

My heart is all aflutter...

It's been a while since I colored for fun.

I know that's a sad thing to say, given that my job pretty much requires me to have a Copic marker in my hand for several hours each day.

But there's a difference between coloring for a lesson and going into a project with no goals or pre-set techniques. It's not often that I get to go where the Muse wants to take me.

This is a tiny project but it was fun to start from scratch and sketch my idea of a winged heart.

Although I must confess, I did have one small goal- this is another entry in my Great Marker Challenge.

Great Marker Challenge?

Yessiree! I've seen a lot of Copic starter kit recommendations on various websites but "My Favorite Copics" or "Essential Copic Colors" does nothing to prove the usefulness of the list. Sure if works for the author, but will it really work for you?

So I'm not just giving you a marker list. I'm teaching classes with only the markers on the list. I'm coloring images to demonstrate its value.

And if you like the results, if you plan to color a similar range of images, then you can confidently invest in my recommended list.

The Great Marker Challenge: Fall Wreath using a limited Copic palette

Autumn Warmth...

I'm feeling the irony of this bright autumnal set of colors right now. As I look out my studio window, it's gray skies, blustery winds, and dare I say it... snow flurries.

No matter, it's a beautiful fall day in my head! This is a wood block stamp from Whipper Snapper Designs, "Sunflower Wreath" and it's just the cheerful kind of pick-me-up I needed today!

And best of all, it's yet another entry in my Great Marker Challenge.

Great Marker Challenge?

Yep. Lots of coloring instructors have recommended starter kit lists but if you're just beginning with Copic markers, how do you know if the list is any good? I totally get it! Before you invest in my recommendations, I'm proving their worth! Watch me try before you buy!

Thus the Great Marker Challenge:  42 Copic markers, 52 weeks.

Follow along with me as I put the list to the test. How many images can I color without the palette showing obvious color repetition?
