Learn to Color Lemon Zest

Most of my students have experimented with the underpainting method and it works great... until you try it with yellow.

Yellow is such a delicate color, easily muddied and spoiled by the use of the wrong shade colors. And sometimes underpainting doesn't work. I've heard your cries for help and here's the class students have waited for!

Learn the tricks I use to shade yellow without the use of orange, brown, or gray markers. I'll show you how I underpaint AND overpaint my yellow markers to keep the color clean and vibrant while still retaining that realistic look.

Project shown in progress with marker steps completed. Colored pencils are used to add detail and texture.

Online Workshop includes:

  • Forever access, work at your own pace
  • 13 minute Technique Deep Dive video- underpainting for yellow
  • 7 minute Technique Deep Dive video- the experimenting mindset
  • 40 minutes of Copic Marker demonstration video
  • 25 minutes of Colored Pencil demonstration video
  • Lemon Zest digital stamp in three handy formats (PNG, JPG, or quick print PDF)
  • recipe guide
  • printable full color sample, underpainting guide, detailed color map, and photo reference

Techniques used:

  • Underpainting
  • Overpainting
  • Flicking
  • Overflicking
  • Swish & Flick
  • Push & Pull
  • Pointillism
  • Scumbling
  • Detail work with colored pencils

Lemon Zest is an intermediate to advanced lesson. It contains technique challenges and does not cover basic blending or beginner marker/pencil techniques.
