Menacing Blues

Even with modern technology, weather can be very unpredictable. A blue-sky day, glimmering with sunshine, can suddenly turn dark and threatening.

Unexpected downpour?

Well maybe you’re also a little astonished by the underpainting choice in today’s color run…YELLOW? Under one of the darkest Copic blues?

Well that’s what Vanilla Arts is here for…to teach you those little surprises that will make your Copic coloring projects drip with realism…

Just savor that seamless transition from sunshine yellow to murky blue. The Y28 creates a subtle richness and electricity to what otherwise would be a very safe color run.

Safe is desirable when you are dealing with a hurricane, but don’t be afraid to push the boundaries when it comes to art.

Try a little living on the edge.

Would you like to learn how to make good color choices? Maybe even better color choices? Well, at Vanilla Arts, our goal is to teach you how to make the BEST color choices!

Remember: Real shade is not darker color, real shade is desaturated color.

To create the desaturated colors that Copic does not make, Vanilla Arts Company teaches Online Workshops and Livestream Coloring Challenges using the underpainting method. Students learn to layer colors realistically rather than blend.

Underpainting creates natural colors found in everyday life.

Copic - Storm Clouds

Are your storm clouds dripping with realism? No? Try using Y28 to underpaint the darkest end of your B97 - B95 - B93 run. Then grab your umbrella…it looks like rain is coming!

Typical Copic tutorials would add B99 to deepen this color run. So the question is:

Do you want your coloring to be “typical?”

Use a little Y28 if you prefer to deepen your hazy blues, while adding interest. Never be afraid to “ink outside the box!”
