May Bells

$5.99

DIGITAL LINE ART ONLY

Lily of the Valley will always have a special place in my heart. I can’t see this flower without thinking of my my grandparent’s farm where the May Bells grew wild under every shrub and around the foundations of the barn and other out buildings.

Plus, it smells amazing!

Lily of the Valley is also called May Bells, May Lily, or Mary’s Tears. It’s a common flower for wedding bouquets and symbolizes happiness and serenity. If you were born in May, this is your birth flower.

Sadly, Lily of the Valley is one of those plants you rarely see in flower beds anymore. They’re toxic and I recall being advised not to grow the plant when my children were young. Instead, I simply moved mine to the front yard where my young children were unlikely to play and slowly let them naturally spread back to the backyard as they grew old enough to know not to snack on flowers. May Bells are incredibly easy to grow, so if you have a safe place, I encourage you to help bring back this lovely flower.

I’ve drawn my May Bells in a small pewter milk pitcher which I’m sure was once part of a larger tea set. You could easily color it as china or even transparent glass.

This image is Ideal for Copic Marker, colored pencil, watercolor, or mixed media applications. Illustrated by Amy Shulke.
