Vanilla Undercover: Underpaint with Copic Markers for Beautiful Realism - Purple Flutter

Add realism to Copic Marker blends by underpainting with complementary or opposite colors. Real shade isn’t just darker, real shade is murky and desaturated. Yellow shades violet for a royal purple. | VanillaArts.com | #copicmarker #realisticcolorin…

A Royal Copic Marker Swatch

Real shade is not darker color, real shade is desaturated color.

To create the desaturated colors that Copic Marker does not make, Vanilla Arts Company teaches Online Workshops and Livestream Coloring Challenges using the underpainting method. Students learn to layer colors realistically rather than blend.

Underpainting creates natural colors found in everyday life.

Purple Flutter

This might be a record breaking combination. I used 5 markers.

FIVE markers!

That’s unheard of for me!

Once I had decided on the markers to get the purple color just right I thought “hmmm what if we add a hint of magenta?”

Calling RV55! Please report for duty!

While it looks intimidating, once it’s on top of V09, V17 and V15 it gives a realistic representation of what we see in this purple butterfly. Perfect!
