Vanilla Undercover: Underpaint with Copic Markers for Beautiful Realism - Sweet Cyan

Add realism to Copic Marker blends by underpainting with complementary or opposite colors. Real shade isn’t just darker, real shade is murky and desaturated. Red Violet adds gentle shade to bright cyan Blue markers. | VanillaArts.com | #copicmarker …

A subtle shift in blue

Real shade is not darker color, real shade is desaturated color.

To create the desaturated colors that Copic Marker does not make, Vanilla Arts Company teaches Online Workshops and Livestream Coloring Challenges using the underpainting method. Students learn to layer colors realistically rather than blend.

Underpainting creates natural colors found in everyday life.

Sweet Cyan

Elena’s Advice:

I do not usually underpaint with RV, BV or YR markers as these are already a mix of two color families (i.e., RV = red + violet, BV = blue + violet, etc.). Sometimes the mix of colors makes for a muddy look to the final color.

But this time it worked because the violet in the RV marker helps to keep the blue vibrant.

Warning! Don’t cry when you add the B04. You will think you ruined everything because the B04 looks a little green compared to the previous colors. Keep going! Bo2 will save the day as it shifts everything back to blue.

Start this blend with a layer of the RV marker, then follow lightly with B16 and B04. End with a very generous coat of B02.
